Had the Boulder before so here's a quick comparison:
1. This phone is LONG and it's hard to find a good case for.
2. Sound quality is good; MUCH better than the Boulder.
3. HOWEVER, if you put your phone on your left shoulder NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU!!
That is really really bad. The phone is completely useless, it appears, for left handed people!!
4. Battery life is MUCH better than the Boulder (remember Verizon started shipping out 2 batteries for those!).
5. The GzApps are on this phone; so compass, themometer, pedometer, etc. are all inside. Those are great!!
Overall a big improvement over the older phones, but the mic placement is very odd. When you open
the phone the mic is near the hinge (about middle of phone) and on the far right. So if you hold it to your shoulder while doing other things, everyone complains that it is "cutting in and out." Must have Push to Talk users in mind with that.
6. Has a 3.2mp camera and it does a very good job of taking photos. Just watch where you fingers are on the back of the phone or else it will block the camera).
7. It has charging contacts on the right, but it doesn't have a cradle like the old boulder. It uses a standard USB (b type) cord so it's easy to find car chargers, USB to computer cables.
8. It allows easy connection from PC to phone to move music and photos. The mini SD card goes in under the battery.
9. Battery is now NOT attached to the back cover. You open the cover, and then remove the battery like most phones (as opposed to the Boulder where the cover and battery were one).
If you like the rugged phones, and don't want a smart phone or move to a costly data plan, this is the phone
to get.

Great, solid phone

I've purchased this phone over a week ago.
BUILD QUALITY. The phone is well built, feels very solid in hand, although the size is too big. Seems a bit bulky.
VOICE QUALITY. Is very good, the speaker is loud and clear. I liked it compared to my older Nikia phone.
FEATURES, SOFTWARE. The software is pretty fast, it has basic set of features (calendar, alarm, etc), which work just fine.
GZ'GEAR is a nice feature to have, however I found only thermometer and pedometer to be really useful. I wouldn't trust the Compass, it seems slow and inaccurate (?).
BATTERY LIFE is great, it lasts at least 3-4 days.
Overall it's a decent phone, much better than "FREE" phones verizon is offering.
OTHER. I really hate Verizon for "complementary" data packet they require for each smartphone. I don't get the point why should I have it (except filling the pockets of Verizon shareholders). I want to buy voice plan only and I want to decide if I want or don't want the data packet. WHY VERIZON DECIDES FOR ME???? I DON'T WANT TO PAY $30 EXTRA EACH MONTH AND NOT USE IT!!! AND I STILL WANT A SMARTPHONE THAT I CAN PLAY WITH (Wi-Fi is good enough)!!!

Awesome phone

I absolutely love this phone. I'm a back to basics kind of person so I don't really care about extra features. I just want my phone to do a good job at what it's supposed to do. And this phone does, making it my favorite phone of all I've had.
-First, it's tough, which is unusual in cell phones. You could throw it through a window and into a lake and it'd survive (but don't!). I like that.
-Secondly, the sound quality is awesome unlike every other cell I've ever had. I don't even expect good sound quality from a cell anymore so this was a pleasant surprise. Speech is loud and crystal clear and I'm told I sound clearer, too.
-Third, I love the outdoorsy apps that come with it (tides, therm, pedometer, star charts, etc.). Love that you can sync them via GPS. Love the flash that doubles as a flashlight.
-Fourth the software is so fast. Flips from screen to screen quickly and scrolls through lists an opens texts quickly.
-Fifth I love that the clock on the front is big and always visible.
-Sixth, it looks nice - but this is just icing on the cake.
Only cons so far are that the lower speaker ledge bumps against my thumb when texting, and the battery life seems shorter than my last phone.
This phone is a durable, well made TOOL and it does what it's supposed to do really well, and that is what I like about it.
